The Bucegi Sphinx

Babele ( grandmothers ) or Vârful Babele ( Babele Mountain ) and Sfinxul din Bucegi ( Bucegi Sphinx ) are the names of three rock formations in the Bucegi massif of the southern Carpathians in Romania .

The rocks belonging to the Dâmbovița district are located at 2216  m in the immediate vicinity of the Cabana Babele hut ( 2200  m ) south of the Baba Mare peak (2292 m). They can be reached by cable car from the town of Buşteni , on foot from the same place through the Jepilor Valley or via a ridge from the Piatra Arsă hut . They are also not far from Cabana Omu and are the destination and starting point for hikes in the Bucegi Mountains.

The "old women" were created by erosion , especially by wind erosion, and differentiated different geological layers ( conglomerates of the Cretaceous ).
