With a planned height of 315 meters (sometimes 325 m is also specified), the highest dam in the world would result if the project is implemented. The location is in the Zāgros Mountains in the Lorestan Province in southwest Iran, 50 km upstream from the Dez Dam .

The planned hydropower plant will have a generator capacity of 1500 MW and generate 3000 GWh of electricity per year. Flood control, irrigation and water supply are also expected to bring benefits. The amount of sediments in the Dez dam is also to be reduced.

The barrier structure is to receive a double-curved arch dam . The dam will be 4,800 million cubic content of the second largest in Iran, after Karche Reservoir .
