Antônio Afonso de Miranda SDN (born April 14, 1920 in Cipotânea ) is a Brazilian religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Taubaté .

Life

Antônio Afonso de Miranda enrolled in the Manhumirim seminary in 1933 and joined the religious order of Missionaries of Our Lady of the Most Holy Sacrament . He was ordained a priest on November 1, 1945 . He then worked for many years as the rector of various seminars and colleges. In addition, he wrote several books, among other things on the defense of the Christian family image.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 3, 1971 Bishop of Lorena . The Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil , Archbishop Umberto Mozzoni , donated him episcopal ordination on December 27 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Belchior Joaquim da Silva Neto CM , Bishop of Luz , and Cristiano Portela de Araújo Pena , Bishop of Divinópolis .

In support of Othon Mottas , he was appointed coadjutor bishop of Campanha on July 11, 1977 . Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Taubaté on August 6, 1981 .

On May 22, 1996, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
