Cândido Rubens Padín

Cândido Rubens Padín OSB (born September 5, 1915 in São Carlos , Brazil , † January 25, 2008 in São Paulo , Brazil) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Lorena and Bauru .

Life

Cândido Rubens Padín studied theology and philosophy and received his doctorate in philosophy in 1942. He joined in 1943 the Congregation of Benedictine at and received on 15 September 1946, the priestly ordination . After studying law , he was later Professor of Law and Dean of the Law Faculty of the University of São Paulo . He founded the Juventude Universitária Católica (JUC). He campaigned against injustice and for human rights.

On June 25, 1962 he was by Pope John XXIII. Appointed Titular Bishop of Tremithus and Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro . The Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro, Cardinal Jaime de Barros Câmara , ordained him episcopal on August 5th of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Nova Friburgo , Clemente José Carlos de Gouvea Isnard OSB, and the Bishop of Sorocaba , José Carlos de Aguirre .

From the second session he took part in the Second Vatican Council as a council father .

On January 3, 1966, Pope Paul VI appointed him . Bishop of Lorena and on April 27, 1970 second bishop of the Bauru diocese.

On September 4, 1990, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. He died in the Benedictine monastery in São Paulo.
