The Roman Catholic Diocese of Taubaté ( lat. : Dioecesis Taubatensis ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Taubaté in the state of São Paulo .
history
The diocese Taubaté was established on June 7, 1908 by Pope Pius X with the Apostolic Constitution Diocesium Nimiam Amplitudinem from territorial cessions of the Archdiocese of São Paulo and subordinated to this as a suffragan diocese. On July 4, 1924, the Taubaté diocese gave up parts of its territory to establish the Sorocaba diocese . Another assignment of territory took place on July 31, 1937 to establish the Lorena diocese . The diocese Taubaté gave up on April 19, 1958 parts of its territory to establish the Archdiocese of Aparecida , to which it was subordinated as a suffragan. Further territorial assignments took place on June 9, 1962 to found the diocese of Mogi das Cruzes and on January 30, 1981 to found the diocese of São José dos Campos .
