Bakhtyar Ali
Bakhtyar Ali Muhammed ( Kurdish بەختیار عەلی, also Bakhtiyar Ali or Bakhtyar Ali , born August 8, 1966 in Sulaimaniyya in Iraqi Kurdistan ) is a writer . He works as a prose author , poet and literary critic and lives in Cologne .
Life
Bakhtyar Ali came into conflict with Saddam Hussein's dictatorship in the 1980s . He was injured in 1983 in a student protest against the Ba'ath Party ; then he broke off his geology studies and devoted himself to literature. His first volume of poetry Gunah w Karnaval (Sin and Carnival) was published in 1992. He has lived in Germany since the mid-1990s. Bachtyar Ali Muhammed speaks Kurdish, Arabic, Persian, German and English.
By translating the novel The Last Pomegranate , the author made his breakthrough in German-language literature. This work is considered to be the first Kurdish-Iraqi novel to be translated into German; it was translated into German by Rawezh Salim and Ute Canteral-Lang. The novel was listed at number 7 on the SWR best list in July / August 2016 and at number 1 on the LITPROM best list in autumn 2016.
