SWR leaderboard

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SWR best list is a monthly list of books that is drawn up based on the recommendations of a jury of 30 literary critics (as of December 2017).

Modalities

The literary critics name four new German-language book publications on a voting slip, which they want "as many readers as possible in addition to the bestseller lists". The title named in the first place receives 15 points, the second 10, the third 6, the last 3 points. The SWR editorial team adds up the points, and this creates a list of the ten most recommended new books for each month.

The list was founded in 1975 by the critic and writer Jürgen Lodemann , who specifically designed it as a counter-list to best-seller lists . Based on the list of the best, Lodemann was able to design the television series Literaturmagazin and Café megalomania at the same time in his function as literary editor at the then Südwestfunk . In several books he has presented the intentions, results and background of the list.

Once a year, the prize of the SWR Best List, endowed with 10,000 euros, is given to an author who has been on the list with at least one title in the past twelve months.
