Jürgen Lodemann (born March 28, 1936 in Essen ) is a German writer and television journalist . In 1975, as literary editor for Südwestfunk, he created a list of bestsellers determined by literary critics , which since then has provided a qualitative alternative to the commercial bestseller lists. His publications focus on novels set in the Ruhr area or in Ireland , opera literature, especially about Albert Lortzing and the Nibelung material , as well as travel reports.

He received his doctorate in 1961 on the topic of German middle-class. Lortzing and his play operas , a work about the composer and librettist Albert Lortzing who participated in the March Revolution . In 1975 he initiated the SWR best list as an alternative to the commercial bestseller lists , a monthly recommendation list for the currently published fiction with a 35-member jury of literary critics . After he had withdrawn from moderation and editorial work for health reasons, he continued to work as a writer.
