Backlot
A backlot is an area in or near a film studio on which outdoor sets are set up.
All kinds of locations are set up and used for the shooting, depending on the requirements of the respective production. Often only the facades are built; In the case of house fronts, for example, rear walls and interior fittings are completely missing. For indoor shoots, other sets are used that are not built on the backlot.
Well-known films and series that fall back on fixed sets of facades in Germany for outdoor shoots are:
- Sonnenallee : Berliner Strasse
- Lindenstrasse : WDR studio area
- Good times, bad times : Berliner Straße
- Babylon Berlin : Neue Berliner Strasse
With a digital backlot , the actors are recorded in front of a blue or green screen. Besides the actors, only the simplest objects are actually filmed. The rest is then inserted digitally.
The following films, among others, were shot using digital backlot technology:
- Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
- Immortal - New York 2095: The Return of the Gods
- Sin City
- Casshern
- 300
- Speed racer
- The Spirit
