Badminton Association of Thailand

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Badminton Association of Thailand (BAT) is the top national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in Thailand . The association was founded in 1950 . From 1979 to 1986 there was a parallel association called the Thailand Badminton Federation (TBF).

history

The founding of the association in 1950 is not the beginning of badminton activities in what is now Thailand. Badminton was played there for the first time in the 1913 gardens of King Ramda VI. Even after the association was founded in 1950, the association enjoyed the support of the royal family. In 1950 the first national championships were held. A short time later, the BAT became a member of the Badminton World Federation , then known as the International Badminton Federation . In 1959, the BAT also became a founding member of the continental umbrella organization Badminton Asia Confederation , then still operating under the name Asian Badminton Confederation . In 1984 the Thailand Open started . From 1979 to 1986 there was a parallel association called the Thailand Badminton Federation (TBF), which, unlike the BAT, was an IBF member of the WBF. During the split, Thai badminton was the least successful internationally. In the new millennium, the BAT is one of the top 15 nations worldwide in the success statistics and even has a member of the royal family in its ranks with Sirivannavari Nariratana .
