The Badrutt's Palace Hotel in St. Moritz is a 5-star - Hotel overlooking the lake and the ski area Corviglia . It opened in 1896 and has 157 guest rooms and 37 suites . Badrutt's Palace Hotel is one of the “Swiss Historic Hotels”, the “Swiss Deluxe Hotels” and the “ Leading Hotels of the World ”. Following the death of her husband Hansjürg († November 29, 2016), the majority shareholder is Anikó Badrutt.
The hotel has seven restaurants . The complex includes the “Chesa Veglia”, one of the oldest buildings in St. Moritz. The former farmhouse from 1658 houses three restaurants and two bars .
history
In 1864 Caspar Badrutt, son of the Graubünden hotel pioneer Johannes Badrutt , bought the Hotel Beaurivage and had it converted into today's Badrutt's Palace Hotel by the Zurich architects Chiodera and Tschudy in 1892. The house was officially opened in 1896, two years later Caspar's son Hans Badrutt took over the management. The west wing of the hotel and a tennis hall, today's King's Club, were added in 1910 according to plans by the architect and leading representative of the early homeland security movement in Graubünden, Nicolaus Hartmann .
In 1912 a tennis hall was built on the top floor of the hotel, which was also used for banquets and other special occasions from the start. It was the first indoor facility in Europe. In the 1960s it was more and more forgotten and was used as a chair store. A restaurant has only been set up there since the 2014/15 winter season.
In 1935/36 the family bought the Chesa Veglia and converted it into a restaurant. After the death of Hans Badrutt, his widow Helene took over the management of the hotel together with her stepson Andrea (* 1910, † 1998) in 1953. When she died in 1960, her son Hansjürg Badrutt (1930–2016) joined the management. The hotel tower burned down in 1967, but was rebuilt a year later, rented to Gunther Sachs in 1969 and furnished by the artist Andy Warhol . In 1969/70 a swimming pool and a fitness center were added. From 1981 to 1984 the hotel was expanded to include condominiums and suites.
In 1999 the American hotel group Rosewood Hotels & Resorts took over management of the hotel. In the same year extensive renovation work began. In 2000 a fitness club and a spa area were opened. In 2002 the Serletta shopping line with international stores opened in Via Serlas below the hotel, later renamed the Palace Galerie. In 2003 the 280 m² Hans Badrutt Suite was completed. The Helen Badrutt Suite with marble bathrooms is 250 m². An overnight stay in one of these suites costs between 8,000 and 25,000 Swiss francs per night.
The Rosewood Group withdrew from Badrutt in April 2003. Since 2004, the hotel director and delegate to the board of directors, Hans Wiedemann, has been running the traditional hotel together with the general manager Yves Gardiol. The childless owners, Hansjürg and Aniko Badrutt, bequeathed their two-thirds share in the company to Hans Wiedemann in 2006 (notarized 2008) in their will. The company's annual turnover is 50 million francs.
Richard Leuenberger has been Managing Director of Badrutt's Palace Hotel since 2018. Hans Wiedemann withdrew from the hotel management and devoted himself to his role as delegate of the board of directors of Badrutt's Palace Hotel AG.
