Baha Targun

Baha Targün (born May 1, 1943 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish journalist and author . As a worker in Germany in 1973 he played an important role in steering the Ford strike in Cologne .

Life

Targün attended the Eyüp Gymnasium in İstanbul. In 1969 he traveled to Germany as a tourist. After a short period of study, he got a work permit. In 1973 he was elected to the strike committee of the Cologne Ford strike. Because of the reservations of the Turkish workers against the union leadership at the time , cooperation with the union was unanimously rejected. After the strike ended by the police, Baha Targün was arrested and extradited to the Turkish embassy in Cologne , where he was released after a short time. Targün stayed in Germany until 1979 after his release. Some sources speak of an immediate expulsion. On April 30, 1977 there was a KPD / AO rally-close demonstrators in front of the Remscheid-Lüttringhausen prison under the slogan freedom for Baha Targün! Freedom for all political prisoners! came.

After returning to Turkey, Targün began working as a journalist and author. He wrote radio plays and scripts . His work has been recognized with awards from TRT , the Turkish state radio and television broadcaster, and the Ministry of Culture . In the last years of his working life he was a full-time tour guide. He has been living in Turkey since January 2008.
