Baha al-Din Ahmad Faraj

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baha ad-Din Ahmad Faraj , also Baha al-Din, Bahauldin or Bahauddin Ahmed Faraj is a former Kurdish politician in Iraq .

As part of the National Progressive Front , Baha ad-Din was elected to the Iraqi National Assembly in 1980. From 1980 to 1989 he was Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and thus Deputy Speaker of Parliament Naim al-Haddad (1980–1984) and Saadun Hammadi (1985–1989).

As the successor to Ahmad an-Naqschbandi , Baha ad-Din took over the chairmanship of the Legislative Council (regional parliament) in the Kurdish Autonomous Region established by the Iraqi government after the end of the Iraqi-Iranian war in 1989 . He remained in office until the Iraqi government lost control of most of the Kurdish region to anti-government rebels as a result of its defeat in the Kuwait War in 1991. However, during the conquest of Iraq by the US allies in 2003, Baha ad-Din (as well as the former regional head of government Jafar Abd al-Karim Barzanji ) initially found refuge in the rebel-controlled areas.
