The routes belonging to the station are not electrified and can therefore only be used by diesel vehicles.
The station is currently being completely renovated. Construction work started in autumn 2018. An electronic signal box was built, which went into operation in December 2019. In addition, a bicycle and pedestrian underpass will be built, which will connect Bahnhofsstraße, the platform and the Park & Ride facility in the Laab district, so the Bahnweg level crossing was closed in December 2019. A barrier-free peripheral platform and an island platform will be created. In the course of the renovation, the level crossing in Laabstrasse was also renovated and replaced by an underpass in Josef-Reiter-Strasse. A bus terminal will be built on the station forecourt.
