Aqeela Asifi (* 1966 in Afghanistan ) is an Afghan teacher . She has taught thousands of refugee children in Mianwali , Pakistan .

Asifi studied history and geography as a teacher in Afghanistan .

When the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 1992, they had to leave their country. When she arrived as a refugee at the reception center in Kot Chandna , Mianwali, there were no schools for refugee children there. Asifi built a school in a rented tent. In 2017 there were nine schools with over 1500 students in the reception center. Many of these schools are also attended by Afghan girls.

In 2015 Asifi was awarded the Nansen Refugee Prize for her tireless efforts to provide educational opportunities for refugee Afghan children . She used the majority of the US $ 100,000 prize pool to finance the construction of a new school. The award recognizes extraordinary commitment to refugees.
