The Dietzenbach-Steinberg train station is a stop in the Hessian city of Dietzenbach . Today it is used exclusively for S-Bahn traffic.

history

The Steinberg station was opened on December 1, 1898 as a single-track stop together with the Offenbach-Bieber – Dietzenbach railway - a branch line that branches off the Rodgaubahn in Offenbach-Bieber . The passenger trains ran between Dietzenbach (Hess) station and Offenbach main station. On June 18, 1982, passenger traffic on the route was discontinued as the number of passengers decreased. The route was then only used for freight traffic and passenger traffic was replaced by bus traffic. At the 2003/2004 timetable change on December 14, 2003, the S-Bahn began operating and the route became part of the S-Bahn line S2 (Niedernhausen – Dietzenbach) of the Rhein-Main S-Bahn .

In the course of the expansion to the S-Bahn, the stop was changed to track plan; the lines were expanded to two tracks and electrified. For the S-Bahn operation from 2001 to 2003, the stop was given an island platform, and the entrances were designed to be barrier-free .

Infrastructure

The stop has two tracks on an island platform. The route to Dietzenbach train station and towards Offenbach runs at ground level in both directions. On the track in the direction of Offenbach there is a switch to a siding, through which a local vegetable wholesaler was regularly supplied with the so-called “Banana Express” until autumn 2008. The track is still there, but closed to traffic.

business

The stop now serves exclusively the S-Bahn line S2. These drive to Niedernhausen via Heusenstamm, Offenbach, Frankfurt and Hofheim. In the opposite direction, the S2 runs to Dietzenbach Bahnhof.

All S-Bahn trains run every 30 minutes. During rush hour , this basic cycle is compressed to a 15-minute cycle.
