The Dommledingen railway station ( Luxembourgish Gare Dummeldeng , French Gare Dommeldange ) was an important railway station for the iron processing industry in Luxembourg . It is located on the so-called northern route (lux .: northern route ), which runs lengthways through almost all of Luxembourg (approx. 77 km long). To the north is the next train station, Walferdingen , to the south, the Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg train station or the main train station in Luxembourg City .

history

The station in Dommeldingen owes its existence primarily to the transport of iron ore on the northern route, which was important here in the past. The steelworks in Dommeldingen obtained a significant proportion of the ore via the railroad and the finished steel products were transported by rail through the train station in Dommeldingen. The station building is functional and relatively simple.

1870 accident

In a railway accident on May 21, 1870 at around 8:30 p.m. in the Dommeldingen train station, thirteen people were killed and a large number injured when the brakes of a train carrying around 400 tons of iron ore failed and it hit the Station hit a passenger train. Most of the victims were miners who wanted to return home over the weekend.

The western side of the station (rail side) is delimited by Rue Nenning , which is connected to the station via an extension of the underpass to platforms 1 and 2.
