The train station as seen from the street side

The Walferdingen train station ( Gare Walfer in Luxembourg , Gare Walferdange in French ) is the only train station in the Luxembourg municipality of Walferdingen .

History, location and use

The train station of Walferdingen is located immediately north of the urban area of the state capital Luxembourg in the Alzette valley ; the localities of Walferdingen and Helmsingen belonging to the municipality of Walferdingen are on the right of the river, Bereldingen on the left.

The station was put into operation on July 21, 1862 - in the course of the opening of the Luxembourg - Ettelbrück section of the Wilhelm-Luxemburg-Eisenbahn - by the Compagnie des chemins de fer de l'Est (operator of the line). The station building in Walferdingen is almost identical to that of the station in Diekirch .

The Walferdingen station is now on the longest continuous railway line in the Grand Duchy, CFL line 1, the so-called northern line (lux .: northern line ). The Walferdingen station is the fourth on this route ( counted from Luxembourg City = 1). This line is operated by the Luxembourg State Railway Company (CFL) on a standard gauge of 1435 mm.

The building is now used by the Association des Modélistes Ferroviaires de Luxembourg , which installed a large model railway system in the old building.

Further public transport

In terms of transport, Walferdingen is connected to the Walferdingen train station by the national road N 7 , as well as the AVL bus routes 10 and 11 and several RGTR (Régime général des transports routiers) bus routes. There is also the community bus known as “Walfy-Flexibus”.
