The station is not far from the apex of the Peruvian Central Railway, which is 4784 m in the Galera tunnel near the Abra de Anticona road pass . The whole pass area is popularly known mainly by the name of the settlement Ticlio . The apex is also at the same time on the watershed of the waters that flow into the Pacific or the Atlantic .

Height comparison with other railway lines
The Galera station is significantly higher than the apex of the Peruvian Southern Railway , which between Arequipa and Puno, in the Crucero Alto station, reaches an altitude of 4470 m and between Puno and Cusco at the pass la Raya only 4314 m . The La Cima station on the Morococha line, which branches off the Peruvian Central Railway but is currently not passable, exceeded the Galera station with a height of 4818 m . From there the connecting railway of a mine led up to a height of 4830 m . The now dismantled Collahuassi line in Chile ( 4821 m ) reached a comparable height . The Tacora mine railway branching off from the Arica - La Paz line near Villa Industrial in Chile is said to have reached 4875 m , according to other sources even up to 4980 m , making it the highest railway facility on the American continent. All of these records were exceeded in 2006 with the construction of the Lhasa Railway , whose Tangula station is at 5068 m .
