The Tanggula Railway Station ( Chinese 唐古拉站 / 唐古拉站 , Pinyin táng gǔ lā Zhàn ) is a railway station in Amdo in Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China . The station has three tracks, two of which are on platforms, and serves as an alternative station on the single-track route.
history
This vacant Lhasa Railway Station went into operation on July 1, 2006. It lies at an altitude of 5068 m and thus exceeds Ticlio ( Peru ) at 4829 m , Cóndor on the Rio Mulatos-Potosí line ( Bolivia ) at 4786 m and the Galera train station (Peru) at 4781 m . This makes Tangula the highest train station in the world. It is located one kilometer from the culmination point of the highest railway line in the world ( 5072 m ).
The platform is 1250 m long with an area of 77,002 m². The station has three tracks. The location of the train station was chosen primarily because of the view from the platform.
"Tangula Railtours", a joint venture between "RailPartners" and "Qinghai Tibet Rail Corp.", has been operating a tourist railway line from Beijing to Lhasa over the pass since 2008 , with special luxury trains running on it.
Timetables
From 2009 passenger trains will stop at the station, but boarding and alighting will not be possible.
