Amdo ( Tibetan : ཨ་ མདོ་ རྫོང , transcription after Wylie : a mdo rdzong ) is a district of the Nagqu administrative district in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China .

In Amdo there is now a station for the new railway line from Golmud to Lhasa .

Administrative structure

At the community level, the district is made up of four major communities and nine communities . These are (official spelling / Chinese):

The communities of Yanshiping, Domar, Marrong, Maqu and Sêwu are located in the Yushu Autonomous District in the Chinese province of Qinghai .

Area, population and climate

Amdo has an area of ​​43,410.85 km². In 1990 Amdo had 27,744 inhabitants, of whom 27,494 were Tibetans (99.1%) and 238 Han Chinese (0.9%); In 2000 the population had grown to 32,843 inhabitants.
