Shuanghu is a district of the administrative district of Nagqu in the north east of the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China . Chinese Shuanghu or Tibetan Tshonyi means "two lakes". The district has around 8,000 inhabitants. In November 2012, the former Shuanghu Special District ( 特别 区 ) was converted into a county.
Geography and climate
Shuanghu has an area of 116,637 km² and is an average of 4800 m altitude. The highest mountain is the Zaqungngomar with 6304 m. There are numerous lakes here, including the Dogaicoring Qangco with an area of 256 km² at an altitude of 4788 m and the Yaggain Co at an altitude of 4978 m.
The climate is extremely stormy, cold and dry, the air is not very oxygenated and the winters are very long. There has been a weather station in the north-west of the district since 1999. The lowest temperature registered there was -62.4 ° C in January 2006. In July 2000, a new maximum temperature of 2.3 ° C was recorded there. Usually the temperatures are between −45 and −5 ° C. There is an average of 2628 hours of sunshine and 150 mm of rainfall per year.
