The Gau Odernheim station was a separation station in Gau-Odernheim where the railway line Osthofen-Gau Odernheim from the railway Bodenheim-Alzey branched off. The station building is a listed building .

history

With the start of traffic on the section from Alzey to Undenheim in 1896, the station in Gau-Odernheim was inaugurated as a through station . In 1897 the branch line from Gau-Odernheim to Osthofen followed . In the early years the station was manned by a station master, and the train crew (engine driver , stoker and conductor ) was also stationed in Gau-Odernheim , as the trains departed from here. For this there was another residential building opposite the station building, the so-called railway maintenance office , a larger building from the Wilhelminian style built around 1896 with a crooked hipped roof and an associated avenue of chestnut trees with a garden area. This building is also a listed building.

In 1927 the associated locomotive station was given up. After setting the passenger traffic on the route to Osthofen in 1974 and on the route Alzey-floor home on 31 May 1985, the station lost its function. After the cessation of freight traffic in 1995, the tracks on both lines were dismantled by 1998. The station building and the area of the former tracks were sold and partially built over. Today there is a book workshop and apartments in the building.

All the station buildings at the intermediate stations on the two lines were built as a type construction according to the same design and differ mainly in the location of the goods shed , which was either built on or built separately. The station building in Gau-Odernheim is a two-part late Gründerzeit clinker building from the opening time of the railway lines with a separate goods shed. The service rooms were on the ground floor and the railway staff's apartment on the first floor. An extension for the signal box was later added on the platform side of the ground floor of the main building .

The other outbuildings of the station, such as the goods shed, loading ramp and toilet block, have not been preserved.
