The Graz Puntigam Station is a multi-track railway station in Graz which of the ÖBB is operated. It is located in the southern industrial area of Graz, in the Puntigam district (17th). The station is on the Südbahn and Koralm Railway , which run side by side between Graz and Werndorf . With its connections to urban and regional transport, it plays an important role in the urban region's transport development concept as a Puntigam local transport hub .
history
To make it easier to change trains, the ÖBB Puntigam station was relocated approx. 450 m to the north in 2006 and the existing tram line 5 was extended by approx. 350 m west of the new ÖBB stop.
Between 2008 and 2010, the transfer point between the S-Bahn, buses and tram line 5 was improved under the project name local transport hub Puntigam . The tram line was moved to the east in the direction of the Brauhaus and lowered so that it crosses under Triester Straße and the Südbahn / Koralmbahn. The old turning loop was torn down and the Brauhaus stop, which was set down, was set up there. The new terminus is at Puntigam train station. A covered bus station with six bus stations (for lines 62, 64, 78 and 80) was also built there. A possible extension of the tram to Center West was considered. In 2010, up to 7,000 new passengers were expected to use the local transport hub. In addition, the Puntigam stop has been made barrier-free.
service
The station is a stop for regional express trains and the S5 and S61 lines of the Graz S-Bahn . It is also used as a freight and storage yard.
Architectural design
The local transport hub was designed primarily to be functional, with special attention being paid to the architectural design. A membrane roof dominates the appearance of the local transport hub. The primary construction is 10 parallel steel arches, which are arranged slightly offset to one another following the passenger islands. These steel arches consist of welded Y-shaped supports, which in the further course develop into arched, curved horizontal trusses with trusses . Membrane made of PTFE- coated glass fiber fabric was stretched between the steel arches . Strip-shaped glass skylights were arranged in the area of the arches. At night, the white underside of the membrane is illuminated by spotlights, creating a friendly lighting atmosphere that meets the safety needs of the passengers. The infiltration basins and surrounding green areas were landscaped. The geometric modeling of the embankment areas creates green earth pyramids that are intended to enrich the ambience of the local transport hub. A green space concept should ensure a pleasant atmosphere.
