The station Grenchen South is one of two railway stations of Grenchen . It is located on the Jura-Südfuss line operated by SBB .
location
The station is centrally located in the urban area and represents the lower limit of the city center. South of the station is primarily the "rural" part of Grenchen, the Grenchner Witi with numerous farms and fields and the Grenchen airfield and the Aare as a natural border to the neighboring town of Arch . To the north is the city center, about a five-minute walk away. The station itself is located almost exactly in an east-west direction, to the north is the “main entrance” (towards the city), to the south the station can only be reached on foot through an underpass.
investment
The station has two platforms with three tracks, with the third track being a parking and waiting track. The northern platform 1 serves trains in the direction of Zurich , the southern platform 2 trains in the direction of Biel . Track 3 is located south of the platform to track 2 and is rarely used. An underpass leads under the station, with which one can get south under the station but also to tracks 2 and 3. The infrastructure of the station includes a serviced SBB ticket hall with a travel agency, an Avec kiosk, toilets and parking spaces. There has also been a bus shelter on platform 1 since 2010. Three ticket machines enable tickets to be purchased and numerous other services outside of the station's opening hours. The station has a seldom used, but still in service, goods shed with 2 separate tracks, which finally lane to the east to track 1 before it finally leaves the station.
