Richard Brunner (chemist)
Richard Brunner (born January 5, 1900 in Vienna ; † July 15, 1990 there ) was an Austrian chemist and brewing scientist.
Life
Brunner worked in the brewing industry from 1929 after studying chemistry . In 1952 he was appointed scientific director of Biochemie GmbH , today's Austrian Sandoz GmbH , in Kundl . In 1962 he was given the chair of biochemical technology and microbiology and the management of the institute for biochemical technology and microbiology at the Vienna University of Technology . Most recently, after his retirement from 1972 to 1981 , he presided over the Austrian Biophysical Society (ÖBG).
Brunner received 15 patents in the field of brewing science and antibiotics , especially penicillin . Together with Ernst Brandl, Hans Margreiter and Karl Josef Schröder, he developed the first orally administered penicillin.
Awards
- 1971: Great Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria
- 1982 Awarded the Johann Joseph Ritter von Prechtl Medal
