The station building in the former tsar's pavilion

The Kalantschowskaja Station ( Russian Каланчёвская ) is a regional station in Moscow . It is located on the west side of Komsomolskaya Square and thus in the immediate vicinity of three long-distance train stations: Leningrad , Yaroslavl and Kazan train stations .

The Kalantschowskaja station was built in 1865 and is one of the oldest railway stations in the city.

history

The station was built in 1865 when the railway line from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod was built. It was built on an inner-city railway line that connected the line to Nizhny Novgorod with the St. Petersburg – Moscow line . The name of the station comes from Kalanchovskaya Square , the former name of the square of the three train stations , as it is often called unofficially, whereby only the three long-distance train stations are meant.

In 1896 a chic red brick reception building was built on the western platform, which was specially designed for serving the royal family . The occasion was the coronation of the last Russian emperor, Nicholas II , who, according to the original plans, was to arrive with his family from Saint Petersburg. However, the Tsar's route changed for a short time , so that the Tsar's pavilion remained unused for the time being. Two months later, and once in 1912, Nikolaus stayed here. The building is still used today as a ticket office and reception building.

The platforms

Today Kalanchovskaya is a purely regional train station, so it is only served by local trains, the so-called Elektritschki . It serves primarily as a supplementary stopping point for trains departing from the Kursk train station two kilometers further south in the direction of Podolsk , Serpuchow or Tula . Express trains to Domodedovo International Airport also stop here several times a day . Since November 21, 2019, trains on the D-1 line of the S-Bahn-like Moscow Central Diameter have also stopped at Kalanchovskaya station.

The station has three tracks and two side platforms. On the western platform, where most trains leave, is the old reception building and an access terminal with automatic ticket control gates. Trains from the south end at the eastern platform.

Future development

There are plans to expand today's regional train station into a long-distance train station, from which, among other things, high-speed trains to Saint Petersburg are to depart. This would have made Kalanchovskaya the fourth long-distance station at the previous place of the three stations.
