Korsør train station

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Danish station Korsør is on the København – Fredericia railway line . It marks the western end of the Copenhagen - Korsør route known as the Vestbanen .

history

The old station (1907–1997) from the former track side

When the railway reached Korsør in 1856, the first station was built on the headland of Halsskov Odde. In 1907 the station was relocated to the port of Korsør, as the sheltered port offered better loading options for ferry traffic . This station was ultimately equipped with three loading bridges for rail ferry operations. Since it could not be meaningfully connected to the newly built line to cross the Great Belt , it was shut down in 1997. The track field was removed and converted into the Byparken municipal park. The main train station building designed by Heinrich Wenck, on the other hand, was renovated and now serves as the headquarters of ScanCom International A / S. It is a listed building.

Today's train station

The new Korsør train station opened in 1997

The current station is the third in Korsør and was put into operation in 1997 with the opening of the tunnel under the Great Belt . It is located north of the city in an open field, but is optimally integrated into the public bus network, as it forms a network and transfer point for this.

Its four through tracks are in a cut and have two platforms, one platform with two tracks for each direction. Access to the platforms is via a bridge, which is only accessible from the station building and is at the same height as it. From here stairs and lifts lead to the platforms. To the east of the station building, a combined pedestrian and bicycle bridge leads over the tracks. In front of the station building to the south of the route are the bus stops as well as generously dimensioned bicycle parking spaces and a large car park.

The station is integrated into the DSB IC network . It is also an important overtaking station on this route, as its track system is long enough for today's freight trains. In the western part of the station and south of the route there are sidings for construction vehicles and the fire-fighting and rescue train for the tunnel.
