The Lichte (Thuringia) Ost train station was an express train station on the Probstzella – Neuhaus line on Rennweg in Lichte , now a district of Neuhaus am Rennweg .

The station is at an altitude of 618.54 m above sea level and, in its largest area, had two platforms, three through tracks, a loading lane, a siding and a track to the goods shed.

history

The station was put into operation on January 16, 1899 under the name "Bock-Wallendorf" as the new terminus of the Probstzella - Taubenbach railway on the slope of the Bocksleite. 14 years later, on October 31, 1913, with the completion of the railway line from Lauscha , the terminal station became a through station . However, it lost a large part of its importance here - especially in freight traffic, because until then it was the destination station for all shipments to the municipality of Lichte and the later district town of Neuhaus am Rennweg .

In 1963 the general cargo handling and the wagonload handling were closed . Until the beginning of the 1980s, the station was still important as a water station for all steam trains traveling uphill, even if it was no longer manned and only had one crossing track. In contrast to Lichte station, the express train from Leipzig to Sonneberg stopped here . On January 22, 1997, the train service was suddenly stopped due to technical defects. On July 1, 2006, the Federal Railway Authority approved the permanent suspension of train traffic.

The German regional railway has now leased the line. The DBV- Fördererverein Max- und Moritz-Bahn eV , founded in January 2008, received approval to operate the trolley on August 20th . This takes place on the section between the Schmiedefeld and Lichte Ost stations.

On November 6, 2005, a serious fire broke out in the former station building for an unexplained cause. Almost the entire roof structure was badly affected.
