Nakhon Ratchasima Train Station ( Thai: สถานีรถไฟ นครราชสีมา , pronunciation: [ sàʔtʰǎːniː rót faj náʔkʰɔːn râtt͡ɕʰásǐːmaː ]) is the main train station of Nakhon Ratchasima , the capital of the Nakhon Ratchasima province in Thailand . The train station is in the west of the city.

history

The station was opened on November 11, 1900 with the name Korat station as a terminal station and end point of the then still standard-gauge railway line Bangkok – Nakhon Ratchasima . The official opening ceremony was carried out by King Chulalongkorn on December 21, 1900. In 1922, the station's facilities and the line were changed to meter gauge , and at the end of the same year the extension of the line to Ubon Ratchathani was put into operation, making the station a through station .

In 1934 the station was renamed Nakhon Ratchasima . It was destroyed during the Second World War and the new station building opened on June 24, 1955.

The station is now operationally the branching station for the lines to Ubon Ratchathani and Nong Khai , although the lines only separate at Thanon Chira Junction , 3 km to the east . The station is served by 18 passenger trains every day .
