Paneriai station
The Paneriai Station ( Lithuanian : Panerių geležinkelio stotis ) is a railway station in paneriai , in the southwestern district of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius .
The station belongs to the Lithuanian railway company AB " Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai ". There is a container loading system here that is used to load the “Vikingas” container train to Belarus and Ukraine . The container train "Baltijos vėjas" (German: Baltic Sea Wind) has been traveling from Paneriai station to Kazakhstan since September 26, 2013 .
There are connections to Kaunas , Trakai , Marcinkonys , Varėna and Valčiūnai .
In the western part of the station there is a railway viaduct , which is rare in Lithuania , where the Paneriai– Vaidotai line crosses the Vilnius– Kaišiadorys line. Not far from Paneriai station is the Paneriai railway tunnel, built between 1859 and 1861, which was closed after being partially destroyed in the Second World War.
Every year the “March of the Living” ( Lithuanian : Gyvųjų maršas ), organized by the Lithuanian Jewish community, takes place from the train station to the Paneriai Memorial in memory of the victims of the Paneriai massacre .
In the station there is an office of the Union of Employees of the Lithuanian Railway Company ( Lithuanian : AB “Lietuvos Gelžinkeliai” Panerių stoties darbuotojų profesinė sąjunga ).
