The Rohrbach Station is the southernmost depot of the Hanover-Würzburg high-speed railway . It lies east of the Rohrbach district of the Lower Franconian district town of Karlstadt and therefore bears its name.

The facility, located around 25 kilometers north of Würzburg , is one of the most complex operating stations on the high-speed line , along with the Burgsinn depot. The Nantenbacher bend ends in the train station at  10.7 km .

The boundaries of the station ( entry signals ) are at the route kilometers 300.940 and 304.013 (high-speed route) and 10.085 (Nantenbacher curve). The railway system includes 10 entry and 8 exit signals and 21 points .

The approximately three-kilometer-long train station is largely in a straight line.

In the north end of the station (route kilometer 301), the two track tracks are connected with a double track change (four switches ). The merging of the Nantenbacher curve, which leads into the station at no elevation at line kilometer 302, is followed by a passing track on both sides. While both passing tracks are connected to the continuous main tracks, the western passing track can also be reached directly from the western track of the Nantenbacher curve. After the passing tracks have been merged with the main tracks to the south, there is another double connection between the main tracks.

The continuous main tracks of the high-speed line can be driven at 280 km / h. In the station, the Nantenbach curve is threaded into the new line in a southerly direction via high-speed switches, which can be driven at 200 km / h. This pair of points is still one of the fastest used points in Germany today (as of 2011).

history

planning

According to the planning status of 1977, the facility known as the Rohrbach overtaking station was planned with a 750-meter-long overtaking track on both sides. The system should lie in a straight line, which should be followed by arcs of 5500 or 5300 meters curve radius . The gradient should be flat in the northern section, while a gradient of 1.5 per thousand was planned in the southern section.

construction

Construction began in 1983.

In the Rohrbach area, a rainwater retention basin was created that has been ecologically upgraded. For this purpose, a large amount of residual water should be ensured all year round. According to the DB, numerous animal species had already settled one year after completion.

The preliminary operation with test trains began in mid-1986.

Scheduled passenger and freight trains have been using the station since the end of May 1988.

In June 1994 the Nantenbach curve was put into operation.
