The San Remo train station ( Italian Stazione di San Remo ) was the first train station in the city of Sanremo in Italy , Liguria region , Imperia province . It was closed after the opening of the double-track expansion of the Genoa – Ventimiglia railway line on September 24, 2001 and replaced by the underground Sanremo station.
history
The station, opened in 1872, was located in Piazza Cesare Battisti. The reception building has been preserved and is used commercially. After removing the tracks, an approximately 20 km long bicycle and pedestrian path was created between Ospedaletti in the southwest and San Lorenzo al Mare in the northeast.
From 1913 to 1942 the tram line Ospedaletti – Sanremo – Taggia ran on the station square.
The trolleybus Sanremo (Filovia dei Fiori) has operated there since April 21, 1942 until today .
The station, formerly known as the traditional name Sanremo known was in the 1980s in San Remo renamed.

The station was equipped with a reception building , a toilet facility and three platforms.
The reception building still exists, as does the tobacco shop, while the bar and kiosk, which have been inside the building since its inauguration, have been closed.
The former goods shed houses event and exhibition rooms. On the former track field there is a parking lot and a section of the cycle path that was inaugurated in 2008.
