The Wilthen station is an operating point of the Bautzen – Bad Schandau railway line and the line from Oberoderwitz that flows into this area in the municipality of Wilthen in Saxony .

history

Wilthen station has existed since the opening of the Bautzen – Bad Schandau railway on September 1, 1877. The reception building corresponds to other similar structures that were built on the South Lusatian Railway . The station complex with the station building arranged in an island location is similar to that in Oberoderwitz . In the 1920s, the station received two mechanical signal boxes with a station block. The command signal box B2 was on the western exit towards Neukirch, the guard signal box W1 on the eastern exit in the corner of the lines from Bautzen and Oberoderwitz.

A turning point was the political turning point in East Germany in 1989/90. Within a very short period of time, there was an enormous decline in passenger and freight traffic. Ticket issuance in the reception building closed in February 1997. Another loss of importance arose with the cessation of travel to Bautzen on December 12, 2004. On June 16, 2007, the route between Bautzen and Wilthen was completely closed.

Track plan of the Wilthen station before 1989, today only tracks 1, 6 and 8 are in operation

In 2004, the missing points in the west head were renewed, which in the end were only passable at 10 km / h. The turnouts of the east head followed in 2006. In February 2007, all tracks that were no longer needed were dismantled.

On November 25, 2008, a new electronic interlocking (ESTW-A) went into operation, which replaced the previous mechanical interlocking. The line from Bautzen, which was already closed at that time, was no longer implemented, although at least the location of the exit signal on track 1 would enable journeys in the direction of Bautzen to be secured. The old signal box buildings were demolished in 2009.

On June 16, 2009, freight traffic ended at the station. The last goods customer in Wilthen was the Wilthener wine distillery , which was served several times a week by a block train.

Since 2008, the regional express trains on the Dresden – Zittau – Liberec route have been crossing every hour on the hour, with the symmetry time two minutes later than usual. Regional trains run every two hours on the Dresden – Zittau route, but they meet in the neighboring Ebersbach (Sachs) station to the east . Both lines have been operated by the railway company Die Länderbahn under the Trilex brand since December 2014 .

A passenger train timetable came into effect on October 15, 2019, which is consistently geared towards the new zero-cycle hub in Zittau. Since then, the regional trains have been crossing every two hours in Wilthen for the usual minute of symmetry .
