The Winterthur-Töss Station is a Winterthur train station in the city district of Töss .

history

Töss station with station officials in 1880.

The station was built in 1875 by the Swiss National Railroad (SNB) as part of a route originally planned to Basel. The wooden station building from 1876 (today the goods shed) is a typical straight-line station from this time and is structurally identical, for example at Winterthur-Wülflingen station on the same route. However, the end of the plans of the SNB, which built the station, came just two years later: It went bankrupt and the bankruptcy estate was bought under value by its former competitor NOB . The taxpayers of the neighboring communities, including Winterthur, had to repay the debts until the middle of the 20th century.

The railway connection was particularly important for the Rieter machine factory , which is located directly at the train station, and the machine factory continued to grow rapidly with the transport of goods by rail. In 1898, the people agreed to found the Swiss Federal Railways , which was then built up in the course of the first decade of the 20th century and also modernized the infrastructure in many places, so in 1910 the present reception building and the toilet block were built in Winterthur. In 1924 the line was electrified.

Töss train station has been unattended since 2005. The station building now serves as a community center for the local population. The current goods shed from 1875 is under municipal monument protection, while the toilet block and the current station building from 1910 enjoy municipal monument protection.

Track system

The station has four tracks, only the two rearmost from the station building are still in use. The front two are shunting tracks that are simply crossed when accessing the trains. At the western end of the station, Rieter has a siding. The two platform tracks are designed as intermediate platforms .

Train traffic

The Töss train station is served on weekends by a pair of Thurbo's “Nightliner” trains that run to Bülach.

Local transport

There are no bus routes right in front of the Töss train station. The train station itself is also in the middle of the quarter and not on any main road. The next bus station is «Zentrum Töss», 350 meters away. The lines 1 (Töss - HB - Oberwinterthur), 5 (Technorama - HB - Dättnau), 11 (HB - Steig) and 660 (HB - Brütten - Nürensdorf - Bassersdorf (- Kloten Airport)) run by Stadtbus Winterthur .

Expansion and modernization

Together with the construction of the Brüttener Tunnel and the changes to the track field in front of the Winterthur train station, the train station in the Töss is being rebuilt. A new pedestrian underpass will be built and the platforms will be expanded to make it accessible for the disabled.
