The Woodhall Junction station , which formerly Kirkstead station was called, is a disused railway station in Woodhall , Lincolnshire . It was a traffic junction where several routes met, all of which are now closed.

history

The station opened in 1948 as part of the inauguration of the Lincolnshire Loop Line between Lincoln and Boston along the Witham River . A branch line about Woodhall Spa to Horncastle was opened in 1855, and New Line , which opened in 1913, branched from the Loop Line just south of Woodhall Junction, and ran through the dry lying wetlands ( Fens ) to Midville to shorter travel times for Skegness to enable.

In 1922 the name Woodhall Junction was chosen instead of Kirkstead Station because Woodhall Spa gained importance as a holiday resort. Passenger traffic ceased in 1970 when the Loop Line was closed, and finally closed for freight in 1971 when the Lincoln - Bardney - Woodhall Junction - Horncastle route was closed.

The station building is now a private residence, but the former platforms and the former freight yard are still clearly visible.
