history

The line from Campiglia Marittima to Piombino was inaugurated on April 5, 1892. On October 2, 1985, the double-track expansion between Populonia and Fiorentina di Piombino was opened. Towards the end of the 1950s, a branch line to the port followed in Piombino to facilitate passenger traffic to the island of Elba .
