The Gundelfingen – Sontheim railway was an 8.7 kilometer long branch line connecting Gundelfingen on the Danube in Bavaria and Sontheim an der Brenz in Baden-Württemberg , bypassing Ulm Hbf . Six kilometers lay on Bavarian and 2.7 kilometers on Württemberg territory.

history

In 1899 there were plans for an electric local railway between the two communities.

The line was opened on May 1, 1911 on the basis of a Bavarian-Württemberg State Treaty of April 12, 1905. Passenger traffic ended after 45 years of operation on June 2, 1956. Until the beginning of 1959, the line still served as a bypass route, from June to July of the same year it was dismantled. According to various sources, the formal shutdown did not take place until September 15 or December 31, 1964.
