history

On August 15, 1884, the railway line from Allenstein to Lyck , which was under construction, reached the city of Johannisburg, which was connected to the Prussian State Railways network . A year later it was extended to Lyck ( Polish Ełk ). This route is still used by the Polish State Railways (PKP), albeit to a limited extent. A second line was opened in Johannisburg on November 15, 1905. It led north and created a connection to the district town of Lötzen (Polish: Giżycko ).

On September 1, 1908, the railway line was opened to the south-eastern border community of Dlottowen (1938–1945 Fischborn , Polish : Dłutowo ). In 1915 it was extended to the neighboring Polish city of Kolno . Later it was considered to extend the route from Kolno to Łomża . In Kolno, the railway line coming from Johannisburg met the newly built Myszyniec – Kolno small railway .

The railway line in the end of 28 kilometers with a gauge of 1435 mm was under the control of the Reich Railway Directorate Königsberg until the end . Due to changed political conditions, the section from Dlottowen / Fischborn to Kolno was closed in 1923. At the end of the Second World War , the section from Fischborn to Johannisburg, which was used until 1944, was abandoned and its facilities were dismantled.
