The railway line from Lahr to Lahr Stadt was a three-kilometer branch line that connected the city of Lahr to the Rhine Valley Railway .

history

The Rhine Valley Railway ran west of Lahr, the closest station was Dinglingen station. In order to better connect Lahr to the railway, the private Lahr railway company built a branch line , which was opened on November 6, 1865. Due to competition with the Lahr narrow-gauge line , which was opened in 1889, the branch line was taken over by the Grand Ducal Baden State Railways in 1906 . In 1933 Dinglingen was incorporated into Lahr, subsequently the Dinglingen station was renamed Lahr-Dinglingen station .

Passenger traffic on the branch line ended on July 13, 1960, after which the Lahr-Dinglingen station was renamed Lahr (Schwarzw) station . In 1970 the station building of the Lahr city station, which was no longer in use, was demolished to make way for the federal road as a feeder road. Freight traffic on the branch line ran until October 31, 1995 and was last operated by Deutsche Bahn . At the beginning of the 21st century, the tracks were removed and a cycle path from the train station to the city center was laid on the route . Today the last visible traces of the branch line can be found next to platform 6 in Lahr (Schwarzw) station.

Consideration of extending the branch line to Biberach into the Kinzig valley was not implemented because of the difficult topographical conditions.

vehicles

Initially, the locomotives of Baden type XIII that were specially purchased for this route were used . In the last years of passenger transport, rail buses drove .
