The class XIII locomotives , from 1868 I a , of the Grand Ducal Baden State Railroad were two steam locomotives that were purchased for the Lahr – Lahr Stadt railway line .
history
Building on the experience gained by the Maschinenbau-Gesellschaft Karlsruhe with double-coupled locomotives, the Badische Staatsbahn ordered two small locomotives of this type for the railway line from Dinglingen (later Lahr) station to Lahr, which opened in 1865. The machines with the factory numbers 258 and 259 were given the track numbers 174 and 175 and the names SCHOENBERG and SCHWAN . Both locomotives were decommissioned by 1907.
Constructive features
The locomotives had an internal box frame made of 12 mm thick sheet metal. Two feedwater tanks were arranged in the areas in front of and behind the coupling axes.
The Crampton boiler had a steam dome on the rear boiler section. The steam dome had the typical decoration with brass bands. He had two spring balance valves. A drying tube connected the steam dome with a cast attachment. From this outside pipes led to the steam cylinders. The boiler was fed by two horizontal injectors. The cylindrical chimney was later replaced by a slightly conical design.
The two-cylinder wet steam engine was arranged on the outside. The horizontally arranged cylinders worked on the rear axle. The valve boxes were above the cylinders. The Stephenson control had counter cranks and an overhead control shaft. The suspension of the axle sets was provided by leaf springs above the axles.
The coal holder was in front of the driver's cab. The driver's cab had no side walls. It had three windows to the front and three to the rear. Initially, the locomotives had four sandboxes behind the wheels, which sanded the front axle from the front and the rear axle from the rear. Later a central sandpit was placed on the kettle, which also sanded the front axle from behind.
The spindle brake acted on the coupling wheels on both sides.
