The Biberach (Baden) train station is a small railway junction in southern Baden , south of Baden-Württemberg City Offenburg . Here the Harmersbachtalbahn branches off via Zell am Harmersbach to Oberharmersbach-Riersbach from the Black Forest Railway Offenburg - Singen (Hohentwiel) .

history

With the construction of the Black Forest Railway and the establishment of the Biberach railway station around 1865, one or the other rural workshop developed into larger businesses with a thoroughly industrial character. When the Black Forest Railway was being built , the neighboring town of Zell am Harmersbach suggested connecting to the railway via a tunnel from Steinach . It was not only the question of cost that made this request fail. The only concession was that until 1919, to the annoyance of the Biberach citizens, the Biberach station was called "Biberach-Zell".

In 1897, the Berlin company Vering & Waechter suggested building a "connecting railway" from Biberach to Zell. Originally only planned as far as the city of Zell, for economic reasons the municipality of Oberharmersbach demanded that the railway line be continued into the Harmersbach Valley. On December 15, 1904, the now "Harmersbachtalbahn" railway line was officially opened. Today the infrastructure operator is the Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-AG (SWEG).

Consideration of extending the Lahr – Lahr Stadt railway to Biberach was not implemented due to the difficult topographical conditions.

The Black Forest Railway was electrified from 1972 . The section from Offenburg to Villingen was electrified on September 28, 1975, the line from Villingen to Konstanz in 1977.

Since December 2005, individual journeys of the Harmersbachtalbahn via Biberach have been linked directly to and from Offenburg. From Biberach, the Harmersbachtalbahn trains run together with the Kinzigtalbahn SWEG railcars to Offenburg and sometimes continue on the Renchtalbahn to Bad Griesbach .

In December 2014 the 110th anniversary of the Harmersbachtalbahn was celebrated.

traffic

Like the entire Ortenau district, Biberach belongs to the tariff association Ortenau (TGO).

Rail transport

The Regional Express Karlsruhe - Constance, known as the "Black Forest Railway", runs every hour on the Black Forest Railway . However, it only stops in Biberach every two hours. In the other hours the train stops in the neighboring Gengenbach station . Class 146 locomotives with double-decker cars are used on the Black Forest Railway .

In addition, the SWEG stops between Bad Griesbach , Offenburg , Hausach and Freudenstadt as well as the Harmersbachtalbahn trains from and to Oberharmersbach in Biberach. In addition, there are individual connections between Offenburg, Hausach and Hornberg , which usually only begin or end in Hausach. This connection was inactive between December 2006 and December 2014. SWEG railcars of the Stadler Regio-Shuttle RS1 type are used .
