The Appenweier – Bad Griesbach railway , also known as Renchtalbahn , is a branch line in Baden-Württemberg . It runs in the Black Forest from Appenweier to Bad Griesbach and mostly follows the Rench river . Today's operator of passenger transport is the SWEG .

history

The first section between Appenweier and Oppenau was opened on June 1, 1876 by the Renchthal Railway Company , which was taken over on May 31, 1909 by the Grand Ducal Baden State Railways , which had been in operation from the start. The Deutsche Reichsbahn extended the line to Bad Peterstal on November 28, 1926 and to Bad Griesbach on May 23, 1933.

From 1998 to 2014 Ortenau-S-Bahn GmbH (OSB), a subsidiary of Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-AG (SWEG), carried out local public transport , for which Deutsche Bahn AG was previously responsible. The SWEG has been operating the line since the dissolution of Ortenau-S-Bahn GmbH (2014). The trains start in Offenburg and use the tracks of the Mannheim – Basel railway to Appenweier .

In July 2006, DB Netz AG , which is still responsible for the route infrastructure, put an electronic interlocking in Oberkirch into operation, which controls operations from Appenweier to Bad Griesbach. It is the first electronic interlocking in Germany of a new type from Bombardier Transportation Signal from Braunschweig , which is optimized for branch lines. The necessary investments amounted to 4.6 million euros.

service

The route is operated from Bad Griesbach to Offenburg between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. and in the opposite direction between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. (as of January 2015). The trains usually commute between Bad Griesbach and Freudenstadt .

For the route to Offenburg, the trains take 48 to 50 minutes, with the route to Oppenau being served every hour and to Bad Griesbach every two hours. Apart from school traffic at lunchtime and late in the evening, there are no trains that end in Oppenau during the day. At the usual minute of symmetry shortly before half an hour, the train crossings take place here. On weekdays, the trains in the direction of Bad Griesbach run every hour, with the exceptions at 6 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. (only to Oppenau), and in the direction of Offenburg with the exceptions at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. (only from Oppenau) every hour.
