The Rēzekne – Zilupe railway is a railway line in Latvia and Russia . It has the Russian track width of 1520 mm, a length of around 55 km, is single-track and is not electrified. The route is owned and operated by Latvijas dzelzceļš .

history

The line was built in 1894 by the Moscow-Windau-Rybinsk Railway , which it operated as a private railway until the end of the Tsarist Empire in 1918. From 1918 to 1940 it was part of the network of what was then the Latvian State Railway Latvijas Valsts Dzelzsceļi (LVD), then until 1991 to the network of the Soviet State Railway SŽD .

As a result of the renewed Latvian independence, the Zilupe station was taken over by the Latvijas dzelzceļš , as was the case from 1919 to 1940, as the border station to Russia .
