The Stuttgart Hafen – Stuttgart Ost railway line is a freight line in the Stuttgart districts of Obertürkheim , Untertürkheim and Wangen . The standard-gauge , single-track and non-electrified line is operated by DB Netz AG and connects the freight stations in Stuttgart Hafen and Stuttgart Ost , which was formerly known as Stuttgart-Wangen. It thus links the Stuttgart-Untertürkheim – Stuttgart Hafen railway with the Stuttgart-Untertürkheim – Stuttgart-Gaisburg railway . The line covered here went into operation in 1968, that is ten years after the neighboring Stuttgart port railway and the feeder line from Untertürkheim. The largest engineering structure on the route is the port railway bridge over the Neckar , it is 219 meters long. Since the closure of the neighboring Stuttgart-Untertürkheim-Stuttgart Ost section in 1985, the Stuttgart Hafen – Stuttgart Ost railway line has been the only connection between the numerous sidings to the left of the Neckar and the rest of the German rail network.

In 2019, Deutsche Bahn put the route out to tender because it could not operate the infrastructure economically. Annual income from the use of the facility of around 12,000 euros would be offset by annual costs for maintaining the route of around 277,000 euros. Investments of 3.8 million euros are required over the next few years.
