The Zwickau – Planitz line was a branch line in Saxony that was originally built as an industrial line. It branched off the Zwickau – Falkenstein railway line at kilometer 3.603 and ended in what is now the Zwickau district of Planitz .
history
On June 24, 1907, construction began on the industrial railway, which is only 930 meters long. The easy route was opened on October 15, 1910 for freight traffic.
From January 15, 1949, passenger trains ran from Zwickau (Sachs) Hbf to Planitz. The trains initially used the Zwickau – Falkenstein line with the Zwickau RAW “7. October “ and Zwickau (Sachs) Reichenbacher Straße . About a kilometer behind this, the train left the line to Falkenstein at the Zwickau-Planitz junction and finally reached the Zwickau-Planitz train station shortly afterwards. With the timetable change on September 29, 1968, travel was stopped again.
On November 8, 1969, the line was closed and dismantled a little later.
Operating points
Zwickau-Planitz junction ⊙
The Zwickau – Planitz railway line, which was initially only opened for freight traffic in 1907, had its starting point in the Zwickau-Planitz junction of the Zwickau – Falkenstein railway line. The only building at the junction was a simple two-story signal box made of red bricks. In addition to the junction, it also secured a nearby gated level crossing over the Zur Kohlenstraße . After the short branch line to Planitz was closed in 1969, the branch was also closed.
Zwickau-Planitz ⊙
On October 15, 1907 Niederplanitz loading point was opened. Since 1911 the station was called Niederplanitz . With the merger of Ober- and Niederplanitz to Planitz, the station was named Planitz on June 1, 1924 . Since September 1, 1933, Planitz was a freight station and, with the start of passenger traffic, from January 15, 1949, it was also a station. As a result, Planitz now had two passenger stations with the name Planitz for a short time , as the Cainsdorf station on the Schwarzenberg – Zwickau railway line was named Planitz-Cainsdorf in 1940 after a land swap in 1939 .
After the incorporation of the city Planitz Zwickau in 1944 the Planitzer station was on May 20, 1951, the name Zwickau-Planitz , while the train station Planitz-Cainsdorf again Cainsdorf was rückbenannt. Zwickau-Planitz station was decommissioned on November 8, 1969. Today the building is located near the Neuplanitz tram stop on Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße in Zwickau-Neuplanitz.
Vehicle use
Operations of the 75.5 (Saxon XIV HT) and 86 series in front of the passenger trains to Planitz are documented. In the last years of operation, the passenger trains consisted of two-axle Reko wagons of the Bag type and a luggage wagon of the same type.
