The Baier & Schneider GmbH & Co. KG , based in Heilbronn is a stationery maker in Heilbronn. The company is known for its Brunnen trademark , under which it sells over 7000 products. It is part of the Schneider Group , which also includes other legally independent companies in several European countries.

The group of companies employs around 800 people at its 8 locations and has an annual turnover of around 130 million euros. The product range of all brands, comprising 20,000 items, is sold in around 50 countries.

The history of the company

Baier & Schneider was founded in 1877 by Julius Baier and Andreas Schneider , who took over Gustav Ziegler's paper, stationery and haberdashery wholesale business. In Heilbronn, the industrialization of the Neckar mills had created a prosperous Heilbronn paper industry . Co-founder Baier died in 1879. Richard Mayer took his place as a new partner, although the company name that was already well established was retained. Due to growing demand, the company soon started its own production of lined papers. In 1888, Baier & Schneider acquired a former newspaper printing company and set up two high-speed presses there. With our own print shop, the assortment could be increased significantly. a. about the production of business books. In 1894 and 1903 two spacious factory buildings were built on what was then the outskirts of Heilbronn, in Wollhausstrasse.

In 1903 the company registered the name Brunnen as a trademark. The name Brunnen is said to be derived from the former well at Heilbronner Kirchhöfle, the first company location. The trademark is a stylized fountain with an "H" for Heilbronn. Since 1903, the logo has been adapted several times to reflect contemporary tastes.

Andreas Schneider and Richard Mayer provided advice to the company, which was headed by Schneider's son Richard Schneider from 1921, until 1929 and 1932 respectively. After the construction of a new factory on Wollhausstraße in Heilbronn, production was equipped with the latest machines in 1930 and the workforce was increased to 500 workers.

During the air raid on Heilbronn , the entire production facilities were destroyed, so that after 1945 a completely new start with 20 workers took place under the direction of Andreas Schneider, the grandson of the company founder. By 1970 the company had grown back to a size comparable to that of the pre-war period: around 600 people were employed on a work and storage area of ​​19,000 m². The operation consisted of a typesetting with electroplating, a liner, a book and offset printing, plastic processing, several bookbinding rooms and extensive storage facilities for raw materials and finished products. Distribution warehouses existed in Berlin, Hamburg, Dortmund and Cologne.

In 1973, Baier & Schneider took over the production and sales of the insolvent paper company MK-Papier , which was founded in 1865 by the entrepreneur Max Krause .

Around 1988 the planning and construction of a logistics center in Heilbronn's industrial area Böllinger Höfe took place . The logistics warehouse is a landmark of the region due to its exposed location on federal motorway 6 . In the meantime, the logistics center has been expanded several times and has around 22,500 pallet spaces.

From 2000 the company and the group of companies grew through further company acquisitions. EILERS-WERKE with locations in Bielefeld and Teichröda in Thuringia, HEYDA with location in Hagen, STEWO in Wolhusen (CH), the AJASTO Group (Northern Europe) and KNORR prandell (Lichtenfels).

The company is run in the 4th and 5th generation by Matthias Schneider and Jan Schneider.
