Bairdiella is a genus from the family of Umberfishes (Sciaenidae). It comprises seven species found on the coasts of America.
features
Bairdiella species are elongated fish with a laterally flattened body. The scales are rough. The muzzle is short and blunt. Their mouth is more or less clearly at the end, is medium-sized, has hanging angles and has small, conical teeth. The chin has neither barbels nor pores. The front cover is serrated with clear spikes on the corners. The anal fin has two hard rays, the second of which is very long and clearly thickened, and eight or nine soft rays. The caudal fin ends straight.
