Bala Hissar
Bala Hissar ( Persian ارگ بالاى حصار) is a citadel in the south of the Afghan capital Kabul . It was built in the 17th century AD by the Hindu Shahi . It is located at the end of the Kuh-e-Sherdarwaza mountain range .
Bala Hissar was the scene of bitter military conflict during the Anglo-Afghan wars ( First Anglo-Afghan War and Second Anglo-Afghan War ). The fortress is since November 1879 - after the destruction at the command of British General Frederick Roberts - a ruin . Until then it was the residence of Afghan emirs for 1500 years , the last being Mohammed Yakub Khan .
