Mohammed Yakub Khan (also Mohammed Ya'qub Khan ; * 1849 ; † November 15, 1923 ) was emir of Afghanistan from February to August 1879 .

Mohammed Yakub was governor of Herat Province and was incarcerated in 1874 after an attempted revolt against his father in 1870. His father Sher Ali Khan fled as a result of the Second Anglo-Afghan war from Kabul and soon died in exile. Mohammed Yakub Khan succeeded him to the throne and had to sign the Gandamak Treaty in May 1879 , which placed Afghan foreign policy under British control. In October 1879 he abdicated after an uprising. He was followed by Emir Musa Khan .
